Freedom’s Tears

Grief hit the families of thousands of people on September 11, 2001. While we all have the “anniversary” date of losing a loved one, ours are not broadcasted on TV. I can’t imagine the pain it brings back for them. I am not in anyway saying that we should stop broadcasting those videos. It’s important to remember what our country went through that day. What I am suggesting, though, is that we be praying for the families. It’s been 18 years. I have no doubts, though, that the pain of grief for many of the families (if not all) is just as raw as that day even after all this time. How can it not be with those visual and audio reminders?

For those lost that fateful day. For the loved ones mourning their loss. Feeling the pain of grief. For a country that hurts alongside these families.

//Freedom's Tears//

The silence can be heard across the nation

As we pause what we're doing to just listen.

And in the moment of silence we can hear

The sound of Freedom's tears.

She cries for her people lost that fateful day.

She remembers their names and starts to pray.

Her Stars and Stripes fly respectfully at half-mast

To remember her people lost eighteen years past.

As each tear falls down, she sees a face,

Each precious life taken on that day.

And as we listen close, we can hear

The sound of Freedom's tears.

She remembers the lives the terrorists stole

And a fire burns deep within her soul.

As those tears continue to roll down her face,

Solemn determination takes mourning's place.

She wipes away her tears. She stands up tall.

She looks to our flag as she addresses us all.

She says, "Forget not what happened those years ago.

Forget not the victims, the families, the heroes."

And with her statement, the moment of silence ends.

Our daily routines begin once again.

But as we head back to work, take the time to pause.

Take the time to remember the lives that were lost.

For though the years may have passed,

The pain in our hearts still lasts.

And on this day each year you will always hear

The sound of Freedom's tears.
